My diary records that the first section of framing was built on the fourteenth of March, completed at the end of a long day and celebrated with a prayer of thanks. True, the next day we had to redo some of it due to a change in plans! - but ever since then we've been making steady progress forward. Sometimes time stands still and we wonder if we're not going backwards, but we've accomplished a lot in a month. We salvaged some photos off Madd's ipod of the first stages to help you visualize the path we've been treading recently:

We used four by fours for all the framing, something Dad enjoyed immensely as they are hefty and solid. Four by fours are too expensive in Australia to use for framing! The wood we're using is almost all treated pine to prevent termite and bore problems. We used wood from the old building for some of the form-work, and even the best of it had bore holes. Los Alamos is a logging district and there's a lot of timber around, which accounts for the problem.

Yay - it's starting to look like a building now :) thanks for the update & I hope Steve enjoyed playing with timber for a little while :)
Was there something on paper that you guys started with? Any chance Madd could take a photo of that, too, so we can compare what the original plan looked like with what it's turning out to be? :)
I like the fact that you guys "finished" one night and then went back first thing the next day to change it -- that kind of thing happens to me reasonably often, too! :)
